  VICTOR/VICTORIA (1982) USA

The disguise surprise comedy of the year!

Julie Andrews, the gay icon, acted wonderfully in this film that dealt with gender and love.  A poor, struggling soprano, Victoria, came up with a plan with gay manager, Toddy (Robert Preston) to become a club drag queen singer.  In order to get the job, Victoria disguised as a man, Victor,  for the interview, where Victor was expected to disguise as a woman for the job... To add to an already complex situation, King Marchand (James Garner) fell in with Victoria, not knowing that she was supposed to be a 'he'.  When King realised, he was devastated, but it was a point of no return to him.. As asked by Victor, did it matter what gender the one he was in love with was?  A musical, comedy that was truly entertaining.
