HIV & AIDS

It's your right to know your HIV status!

PT Foundation [in collaboration with Penang Family Health Development Association, FHDA (formerly known as FPA)] is now providing a free and anonymous HIV screening in Penang and Seberang Jaya!

Starting August 2008, you can get tested for HIV for FREE and without revealing your name and IC number as easy as 1-2-3-4!

1 - Register: just take a number ... no name and IC number taken.

2 - Pre Test Counselling: know your risk and get you ready to be tested.

3 - HIV Rapid Test: just a prick on your finger and the result is known during the same visit.

4 - Post Test Counselling: reveal test result, provide information, emotional support and HIV support and care referral.

The entire process takes about 30 - 45 minutes, subject to response and circumstances.

STD'S

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are serious, sometimes painful, and can cause a lot of damage.

Some STD infect your sexual and repro-ductive organs. Others (HIV, hepatitis B, syphilis) cause general body infections.

Sometimes you can have an STD with no signs or symptoms. Other times, the symp-toms go away on their own. Either way, you still have the STD until you get treated.

A few STD cannot be cured. But most STD can be cured if you get treated.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that causes AIDS. This virus may be passed from one person to another when infected blood, semen, or vaginal secretions come in contact with an uninfected person’s broken skin or mucous membranes.

In addition, infected pregnant women can pass HIV to their baby during pregnancy or delivery, as well as through breast-feeding. People with HIV have what is called HIV infection. Some of these people will develop AIDS as a result of their HIV infection.
