  SELF ACCEPTANCE

Jung from Perak raised a question, "are you proud to be gay?" and there were a few responses from the members.

Jung doubted:

I think the basic thing I can ask someone is, can you accept yourself totally as gay and not feel bad about it? And can function daily as a human without feeling you are bad and not worthy of anything? I think this is the biggest hindrance one faces.

Zemian shared:

My biggest hindrance happens to be the environment I'm in. I don't think I have any self-acceptance problems - I study well and trump all my other friends to be on top of the class. Maybe I'm not as flamboyant as all the Princesses around here, but I never deny my eyes to look at any guys.

As I said, my living environment is my biggest obstacle. I stay in an all-male hostel (yum-yum) and study in college. I want to come out to more friends and my course-mates, but my inability to switch should anything go wrong is a little risky. I don't need to be attacked by homophobic residents in my block, and I happen 2 rely very much on my
course-mates for group projects. The problem, therefore, is not so much with self acceptance for me.

Kenny disclosed:

Let me answer each questions separately, can you accept yourself totally as gay and not feel bad about it? Yes of course why not? Only that I can't have a baby Croissant ( kidding), just like NTV 7 I feel so good.

If we don't harm other human being, we can contribute to our society, always give more than we take, abstain from killing and telling lies, being monogamous (touchwood), see the goodness in others, forgiving and practice simple benevolence, abstain from drugs and false speech. If anyone of us practices some of these and strive to practice all of those, then I think you are not only worthy but have a meaningful existence. Do all heterosexual practice that? Do they feel bad about not being able to practice that?

I do not know why academic excellence is being dragged into the scene. Do you mean that if some us who are not so exam smart means we are not functioning well/normally? Does trashing hetero makes us more superior? I don't think so. If we say we are smart, there is always someone smarter than us. If we say we are rich, there is always someone richer than us. If we say we are handsome, there is always someone more handsome than us. So why compare?

One has to know what one wants in life and ask himself whether what he wants is something meaningful which can give him eternal happiness and not short term joy. And I know there are many PLU out there who are contributing to society in one way or the other, I salute you and believe me you are worthy not because of what others think you are, but when you know you are doing the right thing. I was given 2 scholarships before and now I have joined the Alumni to help those in need of scholarships, I do it because I was there once. I do not care what others think, I just follow my heart and God's light.

Let's channel all our energy in helping the less fortunate and you don't have time to worry about all these stuff.

When I was awarded a world gold medal, what came across my mind was "I work hard and thus I deserve it, if anyone works hard they deserve it too, doesn't matter whether they are heterosexual or homosexual and certainly being a PLU doesn't makes me any better."

You can't satisfy everyone. But if you really hate yourself then do something about it because there is no reason you should. It is the mind that makes the difference and you are who you think!
